BAZZANO

Bazzano with 6,200 inhabitants, is a town of ancient origins situated at the foot of the Bologna Hills on the River Samoggia and near to the border with the province of Modena. The economy is based mainly on commerce and service industries. There is a busy market on Saturday mornings which started in 1576 and is one of the largest in the province. Excellent restaurants, hotels and inns extend a warm welcome to the many visitors. The cuisine offers a number of specialities which can be found along the Strada ”Città Castelli Ciliegi”, such as cured meats, cheeses and DOC Colli Bolognesi wines. The town is overlooked by the Rocca dei Bentivoglio which, although transformed by the owners from Bologna into a rural residence, maintains the signs of its past as a medieval fortress. Bazzano has been recognised as a “Città d’Arte”.
