CASTELNUOVO RANGONE

The Municipality of Castelnuovo Rangone, with 12,000 inhabitants, is situated
in the upper plain of the province of Modena to the south-east of the city, and is transversed by the Tiepido river, which is a tributary to the Panaro. The territory is rich in important historical and natural features and there are
a number of itineraries that the tourist can follow. Castelnuovo boasts a number of urban and cultural projects such as the Giovane Holden reading Park, the Park dedicated to John Lennon, the renovated historical centre and, as of spring 1994, the Parco Archeologico delle Terramare di Montale. As regards food, the area covered by the Municipality of Castelnuovo Rangone is famous for its pork products which are typical of the area and appreciated throughout the country and Europe. They are also the driving force behind the local economy. Products include a type of sausage called cotechino, zampone (a pork filled pig’s trotter) and culatello (a cured ham). Another speciality of the area is nocino (a liqueur made from walnuts) which is a worthy end to any meal based on the tasty typical dishes from the province of Modena.
