CRESPELLANO

The municipality of Crespellano has 8,300 inhabitants and is situated between
the upper plains and the foothills of the Apennines, bordering on the province of Modena. There are many country estates in the area which were built by noble families from Bologna over a period of two centuries. Until thirty years ago, the economy of Crespellano was based on agriculture but in recent times a number of large and small industries have arrived guaranteeing a certain level of prosperity in the area. Thanks to its agricultural traditions, the area produces a number of renowned agricultural products including Parmigiano Reggiano, honey, wines, fruit, vegetables and cultivated mushrooms. The dishes which are so typical of the cooking of Emilia (tagliatelle, tortellini, cured meats, breads and traditional desserts) are regularly served.
