The area covered by the Samoggia Valley lies within the Province of Bologna in the hills and foothills to the West of the city. It stretches from the upper plains in the municipality of Crespellano through the foothills of Bazzano to the border
with the Province of Modena. To the South it takes in the hill communities in the Samoggia Valley and along the Ghiaia River which include Monteveglio, Castello di Serravalle, Savigno and Monte San Pietro. The six municipalities cover an area of 256 square kilometres and the altitude ranges from 50 metres a.s.l. in Crespellano to 817 metres a.s.l. in Savigno. There are a total of 37,000 inhabitants. The Monteveglio Abbey Regional Park is in the Samoggia Valley. This is a protected area of historical and environmental interest extending over 1,000 square hectares and which is devoted to the sustainable, educational and tourist potential of the area.

Our Mountain Community includes Guiglia, Marano sul Panaro, Montese and Zocca. The area it covers is very diversifi ed and stretches from the edge of the plains to the peaks of the Apennines. In recent years we have worked together to establish a number of projects in the area of tourism which aim to develop and increase knowledge of the area.
There are a number of conveniently located tourist information centres which distribute information and promotional material, while those that have access to internet can visit the site www.turismo.montana-est.mo.it which has lots of
interesting news and information. The site has links to areas dedicated to hiking, nature museums and orienteering. Day trips and events are organised throughout the summer and are particularly suitable for children. Adults, on the other
hand, can enjoy the local specialities of the area, some of which bear the Label of Quality.
