MONTE SAN PIETRO

The municipality of Monte San Pietro covers a large area around the basin of
the Lavino river. Most of the 10,000 inhabitants live in a few of the larger communities and, in particular, Calderino. The past is can be seen the area’s fascinating historical and artistic patrimony. Agriculture is still one of the main forms of economic activity in the area. Monte San Pietro is one of the Italian “Città del Vino” with a number of vineyards producing DOC wines and grapes making these hills one of the main sources of the Colli Bolognesi wines. The beautiful chestnut groves are a feature of the uplands area, Monte Pastore, and chestnuts are one of the typical products of the area. Monte San Pietro is also a “Città del Castagno”. Other produce from this area includes cherries, Parmigiano Reggiano and truffles.
