SASSO MARCONI

The town of Sasso Marconi take its name from the “Glosina Rock”, a medieval name for the cliff which overlooks the confl uence of the Setta and Reno rivers, and from Guglielmo Marconi the scientist who invented the radio and wireless telegraphy and who completed his fi rst important experiments here. Sasso Marconi offers visitors a perfect mixture of history and nature. The area is rich in historical remains, whether Etruscan or Roman, as well as churches, stately homes and rural buildings of historical interest. All of this is found in the context of wonderful views which maintain their charm. Nature is the dominant feature of Sasso Marconi. The hills are traced with paths, scenic walks and natural oases which are ideal for trail riding on horseback, free-climbing, orienteering, mountain- biking, archery and hiking (the ancient “Road of Gods” passes through here). Otherwise, visitors can simply relax and enjoy the open air. A visit to Sasso Marconi is also an opportunity to try the specialities of the Bologna Apennines such as truffl es, mushrooms, chestnuts and crescentine (a type of bread) in the charming restaurants serving both traditional and more creative cuisine. Other typical products of the area are wine (Sasso Marconi is a “City of Wine”) and olive oil from the olive trees which, after a period of two hundred years, are being cultivated again. There are a number of farms offering accommodation and bed & breakfasts for a relaxing stay surrounded by nature and local customs.
