SAVIGNO

Savigno has about 2,500 inhabitants and is the municipal centre of a large area in the Apennines of the western part of the province of Bologna where it meets with that of Modena. It boasts a harmonious landscape of hills, valleys, woods and streams with many pathways which are suitable for hiking, cycling and historical/ cultural excursions. The valley is continual source of pleasant surprises waiting to be discovered, with its churches, oratories and old water mills. The Tartufo Bianco Pregiato of the Colli Bolognesi finds an ideal habitat in these valleys. The many truffle hunters in the area spend whole days with their fai- thful dogs tracking down this precious product so that they can adorn the tables of the many local restaurants. This is one of the reasons that Savigno has been awarded the titles of “Capitale Regionale del Tartufo Bianco”, “Città del Tartufo” and “Città dei Sapori”. There are a number of local restaurants which include this ingredient in an infinite variety of dishes, as well as shops which sell them alongside other typical products which can be found along the Strada, such as salamis, cheeses and crescentine (stove top bread).
