Spilamberto is situated on the left bank of the Panaro river in the foothills of the Modena Apennines. The municipality comprises approximately 10,000 inhabitants. There are a number of archaeological remains which testify to the fact that the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

Spilamberto is a town of old artisan traditions which are continued today in modern establishments. Small and medium industries are well developed as is the local agriculture.
